The 2018 Coonamble Challenge & Campdraft was the biggest and best yet, with overwhelming nominations, with an Australian Stockman’s Challenge Association (ASCA) affiliated challenge program. They also ran the inaugural Colt Starting Competition, which proved to be very popular with competitors and crowds. In the spirit of education and promotion of the sport, the committee also held an ASCA judges clinic, which was well attended and appreciated.

The Coonamble Challenge & Campdraft is a relatively new event, only starting up in 2015. It has grown in size and reputation in the space of a few short years and now draws competitors from interstate as well as all over NSW. It is fast becoming established on the ASCA calendar as an event not to be missed.

Scott Schoo from central Queensland had a successful weekend, winning the $10,000 RS Chisum Classic Challenge on Darlea Taping Fortisimo and the Ray White Rural Open Challenge on Hell’s Angel, taking home a service fee to Oak’s Amaroo Playboy. Dan Lindley took home the coveted Rookie Buckle. Leah Read won the Colt Starting Competition, and her horse Captain’s Tiger Lily won Most Successful Horse over the weekend.

The committee is already making plans for the 2019 event which promises to be just as good, if not better. There will again be a full campdraft program, ASCA program, meals, entertainment, trade alley and the Colt Starting action will be back again too!

Thank to thank major sponsors, Ray White Rural & Livestock and Coonamble Shire Council, the wonderful stallion service fee donors RS Chisum, Oaks Amaroo Playboy, Daley’s Playrio, Eagle Acre and Brooksipep and Terry & Christine Hall for the donation of three exceptional young horses sired by Hazelwood Conman for the Colt Starting competition.
